| The other day (that would be Saturday the 26th) we (that would be Erin and I, and many of our friends, and several thousand other nincompoops) went to Coney Island, the glamorous playground of Brooklyn, to attend/take-part-in the Mermaid Parade. The Mermaid Parade was started some 20 odd years ago as a vague answer to Mardi Gras and has evolved into the "largest art parade in America". It is a hoot. Classic cars, nautical costumes, hot-dogs, nekkid (or nearly nekkid) people. It is a ton of good clean (albeit occassionaly nekkid (or nearly nekkid)) fun. I took a bunch of pictures of the festivities, some with my Panoramic Camera and some with my Kompakt Automat. We are going to be continuing our tradition of spending the 4th of July in odd out of the way, very American places (last year Texas, year before Bishop, California) by visitng my lovely grandparents and other extended family in northern Indiana (outside Auburn). I'll be sure and take pictures of that, too, although I doubt there will be pirates, mermaids or nekkid people. There very well may be hot-dogs and classic cars though. I sure hope so. At any rate, I'll see you in a few days. |
